21 September University for Medical and Applied Sciences—together with all its affiliates from the academic, administrative, and technical staff and the student body—condemns in the strongest terms of condemnation and denunciation the heinous terrorist crime and brutal massacre committed by aircraft of the Saudi enemy against citizens in Al-Sharyah Village, Bani Hushaysh District, Sana’a Governorate, by targeting residential homes inhabited by women, children, and safe families and destroying them over the heads of their residents—a horrifying crime that embodies an extreme level of brutality and disregard for the sanctity of Yemeni blood and human life.

The University expresses profound anger and condemnation over this crime, whose toll—according to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Environment, Dr. Anis Al-Asbahi, to the Yemen News Agency (SABA)—has risen to 25 martyrs and 30 injured, a toll that reflects the enormity of the massacre and the scale of the humanitarian tragedy left by the targeting of safe residential homes, and affirms that this crime is an extension of the series of crimes and massacres committed by the Saudi enemy against the Yemeni people over twelve years.

The University affirms that what further aggravates the heinousness and gravity of this crime is the enemy aircraft’s deliberate re-targeting of citizens, paramedics, and rescue teams who had rushed to the bombardment site to save the victims and recover the martyrs and injured from under the rubble, in addition to targeting the roads leading to the site of the massacre and injuring an Al-Masirah TV cameraman while he was performing his professional duty in covering the crime—criminal conduct that targets not only the victims but also extends to obstructing rescue operations, impeding the medical evacuation of the injured, and preventing aid from reaching them.

The University stresses that targeting inhabited homes and then pursuing paramedics, citizens, and rescue teams constitutes a flagrant violation of human values and of international norms, covenants, and laws that prohibit targeting civilians, civilian objects, and medical and humanitarian teams; it warrants accountability and must not pass without a responsible international stance.

The University holds the Saudi regime fully responsible for this crime and its humanitarian repercussions, and affirms that the continued targeting of the Yemeni people, their homes, their capabilities, and the sources of their security and life will lead only to further humanitarian tragedies, and that the blood of children, women, and innocent civilians will remain a witness to these crimes and will not lapse by prescription or be erased by statements of silence and international disregard.

The University calls on the United Nations, the Security Council, and international, human rights, and humanitarian organizations to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities, to unequivocally condemn this crime, to work to document and investigate it and hold those responsible accountable, and to take practical positions and measures that ensure the protection of civilians and ambulance and humanitarian teams and put an end to the targeting of homes and residential areas.

21 September University renews its stand and solidarity with the families of the martyrs and the injured and with the people of Bani Hushaysh District and Sana’a Governorate, expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and asks Almighty God to encompass the martyrs with His vast mercy and great forgiveness, to grant the injured a speedy recovery, and to protect Yemen and its people from all harm.
