Sana’a – His Excellency the rector of 21 September University – head of the medical council, Prof. Mojahed Ali Measar, discussed today with the expert in medical education at the World Health Organization, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ganady, the potentiality of getting 21 September university and the medical council benefit from the Egyptian experience in the mechanism of international recognition of academic accreditation in medical education.
In the presence of the national expert in strengthening health systems at the World Health Organization, Dr. Faisal Al-Quhali, and the national expert at the World Health Organization, Dr. Ali Al-Mehdhar, they discussed the reality of medical education in the faculties of medicine in Yemeni universities, as well as the mechanism for obtaining international recognition for medical education by the World Federation for Medical Education ( W.F.M.E) and the ways to support national medical faculties to implement international recognition standards.
In the meeting, His Excellency the rector of the University, head of the medical council, reviewed the specializations of the University and the Council, and focused in his speech that the Council is in continuous work to improve the outputs of medical education, touching on the tasks and objectives included in the law of the Council establishment concerning with its contribution and involvement in preparing, reviewing and approving medical education curricula in universities and medical faculties, to ensure high-competency in the educational outcomes. He affirmed the keenness of the university and the Council to upgrade the medical education in Yemen through the national accreditation mechanism for academic medical programs in medical faculties in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Higher Education.
The meeting was attended by the dean of faculty of medicine at 21 September University for Medical and Applied Sciences, Dr. Salwa Al-Quamairi, and the head of the clinical department in faculty of medicine at Sana’a University, Professor Mohammed Al-Shahari, the legal advisor to the medical council, Judge Hussein Al-Kebsi, and Dr. Abdul-salam Al-Aqel, the council’s advisor for scientific and academic affairs, and the director of planning and international cooperation in the council, Dr. Salim Humailah.
