Sana’a – 1854 applicants of BA degree holders did the first medical licensing exam in 2023, given by Supreme Medical Council, conducted at 21 September University for Medical and Applied Sciences.
His Excellency the rector of the university- head of Supreme Medical Council Professor Mojahed Ali Measar stated that 1854 applicants of BA degree holders did the medical licensing exam today, classfied as follows:
344 GPs, 404 pharmacists, 259 nurses, 291 dentists, 286 laboratorians, 68clinical pharmacists, 66 anaesthetists, 34 radiologists , 35 nutitionists, 34 midwives, 22 physiotherapists and 11 community health specialists.
Professor Measar pointed out that the exam would be taken in two days due to the large number of applicants. So the first day is limited to applicants of BA degree holders whereas the second one is limited to those who have diplomas.
His Excellency Professor Measar added that getting the medical licence would reflect the success of medical staff in practising their jobs professionally.
For her part, Dr. Fadia Al-Dailmi, assistant secretary-general of the council, indicated that the exam included new BA and diploma specializations. So the council is keen on putting an end to medical errors in a way that constitutes the basis of safe and effective patient care. Accordingly, there is no room in medicine for those who are ill-equipped to practise due to poor training and lack of skills.
Dr. Fadia affirmed that the the Supreme Medical Council is the official entity that grants medical licence in Yemen.
The event was attended by vice-rector for student affairs Professor Khaled Al-Moayyed and a number of deans of faculties.
