Preparing highly qualified critical care nursing specialized that meet the needs of the labor market through educational and research programs and contributing in developing and serving the community.

Program Aims

1.

Demonstrates a solid knowledge base related to diseases, disorders and related issues-pathophysiology, signs & symptoms, management approaches and potential complications

2.

Utilize/apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science and demonstrate advance competence in practice of critical care nursing

3.

Demonstrate skills in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health-related research.

4.

Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in nursing practice and in the health care delivery system.

5.

Establish collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines

6.

Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement.

7.

Maintaining an effective communication with patients and their families as well as the members of the health team

8.

Practice within ethical, legal and interpersonal dimensions within the trauma/critical care setting.

Program Information

Study system:

Semester system
MCCN is offered as minimum two-year. One year are study courses and one year is master thesis. The course is organized into two teaching Semesters. Each Semester consists of 16 weeks of teaching. For the MCCN students are strongly encouraged to take all 40 credits hours.

Intended Learning Outcomes of the Program

Knowledge and understanding (A)

By the end of the program, the students will be able to:

  • A1 Discuss appropriate documentation of nursing care delivery to the critically ill patients and the family.
  • A2 Acquire knowledge on the concept and principles of health sciences and other basic sciences related to critical care nursing.
  • A3 Identify areas of a patient’s history, physical examination a diagnostic study pertinent to care of critical ill patients.
  • A4 Illustrate Causes, Pathophysiology, Clinical types, Clinical features, Diagnostic Prognosis,Medical and Surgical Management & Nursing management of patients with critical and emergency problems.
  • A5 Discuss emergency equipment used in various situations.
  • A6 Identify problems for nursing research in trauma/critical care nursing and measurement of data analysis techniques to research problems.

Intellectual Skills (B)

By the end of the program, the students will be able to:

  • B1 Integrate knowledge from nursing and related disciplines into the nursing care plan of persons with life-threatening diseases.
  • B2 Evaluate the effect a specific body organ dysfunction on the patient’s living pattern.
  • B3 Assesses patient and obtains medical, social and family history and relative information/data accurately to formulate appropriate nursing diagnoses
  • B4 Differentiate between normal and abnormal developmental findings for specific system disorder and provide developmentally appropriate nursing care.

Professional skills and practices (C)

By the end of the program, the students will be able to:

  • C1 Manage patients receiving medications and complementary/alternative medicine and/or nonpharmacologic interventions
  • C2 Use most common critical care nursing modalities, equipment and monitoring technique used in various situations in the critical care units.
  • C3 Apply the assessment and treatment priorities in critical care units and monitor patients and follow protocols for pre- and post-operative care.
  • C4 Apply nursing care plan to critical ill patients in a critical care units.
  • C5 Write and utilize scientific research methods, and apply appropriate measurement and data analysis techniques to evidence underpinning the study of clinical nursing.

General and Transferable outcomes (D)

By the end of the program, the students will be able to:

  • D1 Assume managerial nurse role in different health care units.
  • D2 Act as a member of a team work
  • D3 Communicate effective with patients and their family and with colleagues from nursing, related disciplines to develop a comprehensive plan of care for patients with critical diseases.
  • D4 Use of computer and statistical software program to entry, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data.
  • D5 Explore practice, ethical, legal and interpersonal dimensions within the critical care units.
