Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

Knowledge and Understanding (A)

The students will have knowledge & understanding of

  • A1 Etiology, pathophysiology clinical manifestations, diagnostic assessment complications and management of women with obstetric and gynecological conditions and newborn disorders.
  • A2 A comprehensive range of strategies to promote and provide safe and effective evidence –based care and management options for providing care for women and their neonate.
  • A3 Administrative and intellectual leadership in their profession and the disciplines contained within.
  • A4 Specific research and method of analyze related to the field of maternal and neonatal health nursing
  • A5 Principles of mother and their newborn assessment, physical and neurological and high-risk women and newborn.
  • A6 The pharmacological agents and/or treatments during antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum and for newborn.

Intellectual Skills (B)

On Completion of the MMNHN program, the graduate will be able to:

  • B1 Evaluate expected outcomes of nursing care for clients experiencing selected gynecological problems and complications.
  • B2 Interpret patients’ clinical findings and laboratory data in order to diagnose common diseases and syndromes for woman and their newborn.
  • B3 Integrate discipline specific knowledge, primarily derived from alternative practices and academic disciplines.
  • B4 Analyze new and abstract data, literature & research to inform the practice of maternal & neonatal health nursing.

Professional and Practical Skills (C)

On Completion of the MMNHN program, the graduate will be able to:

  • C1 Utilize the nursing process to provide nursing care for maternal and neonatal clients.
  • C2 Use assessment procedures pertaining to complex in pregnancy, labour and postpartum and newborn.
  • C3 Initiate and evaluate the management of women and babies with obstetric or neonatal complications including following physiological examination of the baby.
  • C4 Apply specific research related to the field of maternal and childbirth
  • C5 Demonstrate the principles and practice of safe and effective maternal and neonatal nursing management.

General and Transferable Skills (D)

On Completion of the MMNHN program, the graduate will be able to:

  • D1 Use effective communication and leadership skills in interprofessional teams to promote positive change in the health care of women, newborns and families.
  • D2 Use information systems and other technologies to improve the quality and safety of health care for women and newborns.
  • D3 Works effectively within the team, applying the principles of clinical governance to maternal & neonatal health nursing practice.
  • D4 Demonstrate the complexities of professional, ethical and legal perspectives relating to maternal and child health nursing practice, incorporating sensitivity to diversity and cultural issues.
